In honor of Earth Day coming up on April 22, our Coventry team has put together a list of ways we can all be a little greener in our homes.
Making small changes can add up to a big difference in the impact we have on our environment! Keep reading for some easy eco-friendly tips!
Save energy with your lights.
LED lights are good for the environment, and have the added benefit of lowering your electricity bill – plus, they last for more than 10 years! Don’t like that cool, blue-based light? Don’t worry! Look for LED bulbs that emit a yellow-based light and offer several settings.
Limit your paper towel use.
Paper towels are super-convenient; however, they’re not the best choice for saving trees. Instead, stock your kitchen with cloth dish towels or recycled rags for wiping up spills.
Choose a healthier paint.
Most paints contain VOCs (volatile organic compounds), which can have some negative side effects for both the earth and our health. Shop for Zero VOC paints for a healthier option. Zero VOC paints are becoming more common, so you’ll be able to find them in many national retailers.
Install Energy Efficient Windows
If you don’t already have energy efficient windows, planning on investing in some is a great idea. You’ll spend less on your energy bills, because you’ll be maximizing the effectiveness of your furnace and air conditioning unit!
Clear your air.
It’s time to get planting! Houseplants not only look great, they are also an excellent way to improve the air quality within your home. Get creative with your pots and you’ll have a fantastic element to enhance your home décor. Check out these great houseplants that will clean up your air quality.
Rethink your recycling.
Recycling is important, but did you know that there are city-specific rules to follow regarding what can and can’t be recycled? Visit the City of Edmonton website to learn more about the program, and help prevent your items from getting tossed in with the rest of the garbage.
